I Love My Mama

Who loves their mama? I love my mama. She drives me crazy sometimes, and I drive her crazy too, but at the end of the day she's the best. So it is only fitting that my first book nook I'm actually giving to someone else is for her. A little more background:

My mom loves miniatures. My dad began building her a dollhouse early in their marriage (unfortunately, he never finished it) so she's had a number of miniature items floating around her house for the past few decades. When I started making book nooks, she asked if I could make her one using these miniatures. Here is a picture of them:

Of course I said yes, took the box and got started. I realized I couldn't use them all in one book nook. She had miniatures for various rooms in a dollhouse, so short of building an entire dollhouse book nook I had to choose just a few of them. I really wanted this to reflect my mom. I thought about it, and here are some facts about her:

-She loves decorating with the colors yellow and green

-She loves sewing, and even used to make all her own clothes.

-She's a fan of anything flamingos, tropical, or pool related

-She's a night owl - she would rather stay up late and sleep in.

Armed with this knowledge, I picked the following items from my mom's collection:

Miniature dresser, sewing table, butcher block, table, and rocking chair
The pieces I'll be using

My plan is to make a sewing room connected to a kitchen. The kitchen will have a window looking out into the night. Because of the pieces I'm using, this nook will be bigger than any other I've made (the Haunted Hallway used to hold that title). I think it will be a good challenge to try to fit everything I want to use into as small a space as possible without making it look crowded. It needs to still fit on a bookshelf, of course.

Here's a rough plan of the set up:

The front room will be the sewing room, then the next room in (green wall) will be the kitchen. The window is just slightly seen through the doorway, encouraging the viewer to look around to be able to see the full view out of it. Hopefully, my plan works.

Since it is going to be very dollhouse-y, I'm also using traditional dollhouse lights to illuminate:

One ceiling dollhouse light and one colorful table lamp

That's the plan so far. Stay tuned for how it turns out!
